Pessimism, Optimism, and Realism

Robert Benchley once said that the world can be divided into two kinds of people -- those who divide the world into two kinds of people, and those who don't. Well, I'm going to do some two-way dividing myself today (at the risk of sounding like a dualist, which I'm not; the universe is far too complex for such broad simplifications to be literally true). I'm going to look at two basic tendencies that I see among us White people who care for the future of our race and civilization: The optimists and the pessimists. There is much to be said for both points of view.
 
The pessimistic view of our race's condition was perhaps best expressed by my late friend Revilo Oliver, who was so pessimistic that he regarded the fall of our race to have been in the past, as early as the 1970s -- and he even titled his long-running column "Postscripts" to drive home the idea. And the optimistic view was expressed in an as-yet-unpublished speech delivered at last week's National Alliance Leadership Conference by Dr. Charles Ellis, entitled "Why We're Going to Win."
 
Oliver liked to refer to our race as "the self-doomed race" [http://tinyurl.com/6shzt] He liked to remark that the White boobies, by embracing the suicidal creeds of equality and multiracialism, had sentenced themselves to death and must "dree their weird" -- a Scottish expression meaning "endure their fate," that is, the fate they have brought upon themselves. I will quote, in part, what Oliver wrote in 1982 about White equalitarians, what they have brought upon us, and what they deserve, from a long out-of-print piece he wrote about formerly White Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe:
 
If you were God and looked down on this Earth in 1970, you would have seen the 210,000 White men and women of Rhodesia declare themselves an independent republic in a desperate effort to save their lives and property from the swarming savages about them. And you would have seen the White men and women of Britain, and the White men and women of the United States, and the White men and women of Canada and of Australia and of South Africa, and the White men and women of ...Europe -- you would have seen those [more than] 500,000,000 White men and women, who form 10% of the Earth's population and could still rule the world, if they had left any vestiges of self-respect and manhood, gang up on the 210,000 of their kinsmen in Rhodesia and resolve to destroy them.
 
You would have seen virtually the whole of the White race inspired by the diseased sadism and depraved hate of their own kin that alone can be an intelligible explanation of their murderous unanimity. And looking down in 1981, you would have seen one of the first fruits of the crazed 500,000,000's hatred of their kinsmen: like the photographers of the press, you would have seen the gleeful grins of the Black ape-men as they hacked up the bronze statue of Cecil Rhodes, a symbolic enactment of the hacking up of all White men, of which everywhere they dream by night and think by day.
 
Even those who object to Oliver's colorful language would have to admit that his vision of the slaughter of Whites in Zimbabwe -- and now in neighboring South Africa as well -- has come absolutely, frighteningly true. The new multiracialist state looks the other way while murdering gangs of Blacks mutilate and slaughter White men, women, and children by the thousands in the most horrible manner imaginable. And the Jewish-controlled media say far less about this ongoing genocide than they do about Janet Jackson's nipples.

Oliver continues:
 
And, if you were God, a just god, and saw the White race's obscene orgy of racial depravity, wouldn't you have sent down from your heaven cleansing floods of purifying fires to annihilate a race so degenerate? In his place, I would have.
 
Oh, yes, I know what the apologists of the White race would say. They would say that the 500,000,000 White men and women didn't really long to see the White women of Rhodesia raped and mutilated and the White men of Rhodesia mutilated or tortured to death. Oh, they didn't really want that. They just didn't give a damn. ...And they had elected traitors to govern them and were just too craven and cowardly to protest. No, the White people are full of love and brotherhood -- so full that, at their own expense, they are arranging to have their own children raped and butchered by subsidized savages.
 
...If you were a God, a just god, and heard such paltry excuses, such contemptible whining, would you be moved to withhold your purging floods or avenging flames? Neither would I.
 
...And so [in Rhodesia]... they joyfully hack up the bronze statue of a man who once hoped to civilize Africa, fondly believing that his own race would remain civilized.
 
But cleansing floods or purging fires do not fall from heaven on the pest-hole that is now "Zimbabwe." Nor do they fall upon the White nations that assassinated Rhodesia.
 
No deluge, no conflagration, falls upon the foully guilty. There is no god. But no, wait a minute. Perhaps there is a just god and he has withheld the lightnings of his righteous vengeance because he has doomed that degenerate race to the far more painful, lingering, and terrible death that their own suicidal insanity is infallibly bringing upon them.
 
Powerful truths are in Oliver's words. And profound pessimism. Oliver once said that he had achieved an "integral pessimism" -- meaning complete pessimism -- regarding the future of our race. But, high as my regard is for the good Dr. Oliver (I think he was one of the greatest Americans of the 20th century), I note that for every twenty profoundly pessimistic articles like this one, there were probably nineteen times he privately expressed a thin but nevertheless persistent hope that his writings would be of some use and inspiration to White men and women who someday might build a new civilization from the ruins left by this one. And when you see the monumental legacy of great writing he left to us, and what work and energy that legacy represents, you see the true extent of Oliver's hope that he was making a difference. He began his patriotic work at age 46 and it did not end until his death at 86 -- and his output was, if anything, greater in his last decade of patriotic work than it was in his first.
 
Dr. Charles Ellis is another man for whom I have a great respect. As I write this, it was just a few days ago that I heard his speech "Why We're Going to Win" -- which I hope we will be able to publish in written form eventually. In it, Dr. Ellis tells us that there are many reasons for White people to hope that they are going to succeed in their struggle for freedom and independence. He further adds that we need to emphasize these hopeful signs, since darkest gloom and inevitable doom are poor ways to inspire folks to action.
 
He notes that, despite threatening demographic trends, there are more White people alive now than at any time in history. He could have added that, despite massive pro-mixing propaganda, high school and college lunchrooms are as segregated as ever and so are 90% of marriage beds -- and many neighborhoods. The fight for racial panmixia for everyone but themselves that the Jews have launched is a fight against Nature -- and it's very hard to win when Nature is your foe.
 
Dr. Ellis notes that, all over the world, people of many races are awakening to the fraudulent and dangerous nature of Jewish power, and are reacting against it. A substantial reduction in Jewish power means victory for Whites, even if many of those fighting Jewish power are not White. Europe bridles at Zionist wars and begins to resist Jew-led Islamicization. A billion Muslims want to remove the cancer just as much as we do. Many of these people are racialist for themselves already and care not a whit if White people want their own racially-based societies too.
 
Dr. Ellis gives us a powerful example from his own life. In his profession, he deals with the psychological problems of his patients, many of whom are not White. And he did excellent work, and was loved by his patients and his patients' parents. When Jews and multiracialists discovered his membership in the National Alliance, they started a pressure campaign all over his home state, Alaska, to make it impossible for him to find work, in an attempt to ruin him. They caused him some losses, but he remains unbowed -- and he also remains employed. When certain facilities would no longer use his services, many of his clients were enraged. Dr. Ellis was the best man for their children, the angry clients wrote. They said that they wanted Dr. Ellis or they wanted no one. Only Dr. Ellis would do. Yes, they had read the scare stories planted by the Jews that Dr. Ellis was a "nazi," that he was such an overwhelmingly evil White man that he actually believed that his race was fit to live. But those stories didn't matter at all to those people -- and those people, those complaining patients, were themselves almost entirely non-White. And they demanded the return of Dr. Ellis. That was the moment that Dr. Ellis realized that we had won -- that we had actually already won the war. Everything from this point forward is just detail, just skirmishes on the way to a Yiddish Waterloo. Dr. Ellis's optimism contains as much truth, I think, as Dr. Oliver's pessimism.
 
So what is best for us; optimism or pessimism? To answer that, let me frame our racial situation, in vastly simplified form, in a little parable.
 
You are dozing on a railroad track. Beside you lay a paperback novel, your young daughter, and Jacques Derrida (the Jewish "deconstructionist" "philosopher"). You awaken and see that a train is visible on the horizon, approaching you on the very track where you sit. You see the train coming. Your daughter sees the train coming, and says "Daddy, the train is coming; I'm afraid."
 
You reply, "Do not worry, my dear; we shall get off the tracks. There is nothing to worry about."
 
Derrida raises his finger and says with a self-important air, "Nothing to worry about, indeed! And there is no need to move, at least not so quickly. Have you not heard of Zeno, who taught us that we can never get from point A to point B? So it is with the train. It will take a infinity of time for the train to get here. And besides, there is much to be gained and learned from experiencing the approach of the train, is there not? And even though many trains are made of steel, it is pure prejudice to assume that this one is. For all you know, it is made of marshmallows, and you must judge it on an individual basis. Allow it to come closer before making a biased decision! And, while you're at it, toss me your wallet so as to pay me for my profound philosophical advice." As he lectures you and your daughter, Derrida moves off the tracks to a safe distance.

So, foolishly taking Derrida's advice, you stay on the tracks, calm your daughter, and take up the novel and read while waiting for the train to get closer so you can "judge it fairly." Derrida is fairly beaming, though still exhorting you for your whole wallet, as you only tossed him a fifty.
 
But the approaching train cannot be ignored. Its engines and whistle are deafening and it looms above you, blotting out half the sky. At the last moment, you realize that Derrida was lying and you have been a fool. You grab your daughter and leap out of the way of the train. And you weep no tears when Derrida, in a last-ditch effort to hold you on the rails and get your wallet, suffers the same fate he had intended for you. His skull is crushed by the mighty locomotive, which is most assuredly not made of marshmallows. Calmly, you take the time to examine his pockets, and end up recovering a substantial fortune in stolen wallets and jewels, which you return to their rightful heirs.
 
The moment when the train was about to hit -- the moment you finally made the right decision -- can't properly be called a moment of optimism or pessimism. It was a moment of realism. It was a moment -- at long last -- of real consciousness. You knew the horrible consequences of staying on the rails. You finally saw through the old liar who was trying to keep you there so he could bleed you and feast on your corpse. That wasn't pessimism, because you at the same moment saw that these consequences were not inevitable. You saw what you could do about them.
 
And when you saw what you could do to save your daughter and yourself -- and did it -- that was not optimism. That was not just daydreaming about a happy valley and believing that it's true, while about to go under the wheels. No. That moment of clarity and action was eminently realistic and the actions taken were practical and effective.
 
We need a dose of optimism, in the sense that we need to constantly assess and evaluate all the positive forces and facts that we have in our arsenal, so that we can utilize them effectively when opportunities inevitably arise. Doing so gives hope -- and hope and a positive attitude, an attitude that success can indeed be achieved, are essential for success in every endeavor -- especially in recruiting people for the only. Cause that really matters.
 
We need a dose of pessimism, too, in the sense that we need to be constantly reminded of the very great forces arrayed against us, so that we may take them seriously, evaluate them realistically, and bear in mind always the great responsibility we bear for our children's future, about which no other race, no other people, is going to care about but us. In a hostile and competitive world, we must use all our power and our genius to secure that future.
 
In short, integral pessimism and integral optimism lead us astray. What we need is realism  and clarity about the realities of our own nature and the world about us. And I think we also need hope. And the greatest source of hope is not a fatuous "everything's gonna be all right" mantra. It is the realization that we create the future by our own concerted actions. And so we will get off the track of death -- and the hazards we avoid will most likely consume those who tried to trap us there.  And, free once again and awakened forever, we will make a new and better world for future generations.
